Oil on hemp canvas, this was painted on location. I live above a small fishing town in Alaska. There is a spot in the woods behind the cabin that has been cleared by beetle kill. In the winter, when the snow is piled high, the sun stays low and filters a warm, golden light into the clearing. I've painted in this spot, plein air, multiple times before and decided it was time to do a self-portrait. I kept a mirror at the location and painted from it for a half dozen sessions.
