Designing a still life or portrait is a process. For me I choose something that inspires me. In this painting, it was the Pink Feather Fan that interior Design Genius, William Hodgins, gave me for my 30th birthday. I usually go around the house collecting things that will compliment one another and then put them in a big pile. I stack them high, low, drape pearls, remove items, so several mini black and white sketches and continue the process of adding and removing until it speaks to me.
