Adirondack Island

Adirondack Island, Oil
Adirondack Island
My process involves visual memory training. I have spent countless hours experiencing the beautiful outdoors in and around the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. You will never find a reference photo near my easel as I prefer to work from memory and imagination. This painting is a result of that M.O. inspired by the words of the famous French impressionist Edgar Degas who stated that it is better to draw on memory and imagination to render images free from the overwhelming influences of nature in favor of the liberating experience of painting from the mind and the memory of the place in a frozen moment in time.
