This is a studio artwork, charcoal and graphite on watercolor paper.
This drawing is dedicated to "Ananke", which in the ancient Greek language means: necessity. Many of our actions are not consciously chosen, they respond to compulsory activism, which is related to our nature. When I look outside my studio and I see birds approaching the food I leave for them, I cannot avoid thinking of the power of Ananke, which decides the quality of life, fate, and destiny of many human beings as well. Birds are attracted and at the same time terrified of coming closer to human objects: their necessity of food, which they cannot control or suppress, will push them to face what they perceive as a danger. Human beings do the same, sometimes the whole life, just being responsive to necessities that they cannot control, not having an awakened life.
I tried to capture the suspended status of the bird, at the moment when the attraction of food is battling with the extreme alert of danger. Ananke will eventually resolve it.
